This significant infrastructure project was called in by the Minister for the Environment and was referred to an independent Board of Enquiry chaired by retired Environment Court Judge David Sheppard. Tompkins Wake represented both Waikato District Council and South Waikato District Council at the recent Board of Enquiry hearing into the project. The proposed transmission line impacts significantly on both districts with approximately 115 towers located in the Waikato District and 100 towers in the South Waikato District. These territorial authorities needed effective representation at the hearing to ensure Transpower took responsibility for mitigating and avoiding the likely adverse effects of the project on those districts and their communities. Tompkins Wake was very pleased to play a part in delivering these long term environmental outcomes.
