Tompkins Wake has recently been appointed lawyers for the Lake Taupo Protection Trust. The Trust is a joint enterprise involving MfE, Environment Waikato, Taupo District Council and Ngati Tuwharetoa and was established in February 2007 to administer an $81.5 million fund to protect the water quality of Lake Taupo which is under threat from the effects of surrounding land use. 

The Trust is running a programme to reduce the amount of nitrogen leaching into the lake by 20%. We have been assisting the Trust in establishing a range of legal tools which will help deliver this outcome, including tailored land acquisition strategies and agreements, and developing NZ's first Eco-tender.

The Trust's objectives are a great fit for Tompkins Wake and we are very pleased to be a strategic partner of the Trust in this leading edge environmental programme.
